The Hawaiian Monk Seal is endangered…and delightful! Captain Steve Hogan caught their antics on video!
In this clip there is are two Monk seals that are hunting in a cave with a White tip reef shark. Ilio-holo-i-ka-uaua, The Hawaiian monk seal, Monachus schauinslandi, is Hawaii’s only pinniped. It is a species that is considered endemic to the islands.The population of the Hawaiian monk seal is currently estimated to be between 1,500 and 1,200 individuals. They are considered an endangered species.

Uncommon in Hawaii,of all the sharks in the world, perhaps the easiest one to identify is the hammerhead shark, or mano kihikihi. Early Hawaiians highly revered sharks as both spiritually important and necessary for the health of the ocean.One of the most fascinating characteristics of scalloped hammerhead sharks is its frequent schooling. The scalloped hammerhead is the only known large shark to participate in this type of behavior.
