Amy Eschner Designs

Amy Eschner is an artist, jeweler and dancer.

A birth “effect” called Amniotic Banding caused Amy to be born with missing toes and fingers. so she was challenged right from the start to think creatively. Holding a spoon or a pen or pencil had to be different for her than the rest of us, and she had to creatively figure out how to do it with the fingers that she had. Consequently, her creative, problem solving mind got “forced” into full gear at a very young age. Told that she would have difficulty walking due to her missing toes, Amy has been dancing ballet, jazz, hip hop, Irish dance and ballroom dancing, has ran on the track team and served two years as a cheerleader for her high school. Amy has been painting, drawing, running and dancing and creating jewelry since the minute that she was able.

Simultaneously, she has had to learn to manage the multitude of unkind and unconscious things that people say when they encounter someone different. Understandably, they don’t know what happened to her hands, so they stare, make comments or worse yet, steer away. In situations like this, some people isolate themselves, or try to make themselves disappear so that others won’t notice them. But Amy has taken this as a challenge, creating a whole host of “stories” to share to appease the temperament of those who ask.

Now, as a young adult, her passion is to channel her creative artistry into a powerful message for kids who are “challenged” or “different.” Hence the “Just Embrace It” message reminding us that we need to practice acceptance, embrace our differences and use the gifts we have been given in order to live our lives fully and joyfully. Amy is dedicated to letting her experiences and ABILITIES show others how to overcome disabilities.
